The Goodrich Village Council will consider a moratorium on medical marijuana during the June 13 meeting.
Doug McAbee, council president, said two companies recently inquired about dispensaries.
‘Right now we are unsure if those companies are going to move into the village,? said McAbee. ‘The council will take a look at some options and information from the Michigan Muncipal League regarding the ordinances.?
According to state regulations, patients may possess up to two and one-half (2.5) ounces of usable marijuana and 12 marijuana plants kept in an enclosed, locked facility. The 12 plants may be kept by the patient only if he or she has not specified a primary caregiver to cultivate the marijuana for him or her. Goodrich voters passed the law in November 2008 by a vote of 540-431.
Other area communities are still grappling with medical marijiuana.
The Atlas Township Board and the Ortonville Village Council passed moratoriums on medical marijuana dispensaries last year. The Brandon Township Board unanimously passed a six-month moratorium on medical marijuana during their March board meeting.
The Groveland Township Board of Trustees OK’d a 90-day moratorium last month.
