Village taking bids on sidewalk replacement

Ortonville- The village council began taking bids on replacement of sidewalks after their Oct. 8 meeting.
Council President Ken Quisenberry hopes to approve a contractor at the next meeting and said the village will not reimburse Wally Bory, owner of Bory, Inc., who had previously won a bid in July under the previous council to replace 17,000 square feet of sidewalks at a cost of $48,484. That bid was nullified after Bory, Inc. reviewed sidewalks in the village and found more work that needed to be done, raising the price $21,000 above the original bid.
Bory said at Monday’s meeting that he was being ‘jerked around? and had already spent more than $1,500.
‘We put out bids and everyone puts in their own time and money,? said Quisenberry. ‘He accepted a bid that was never started… This project has changed, and because of those changes, we would be silly not to rebid it. He has not begun any work, and any research was part of the bidding project.?
The village council decided at a meeting two weeks ago to replace all the sidewalks in the village instead of taking a ‘piecemeal? approach.
Quisenberry hopes to have sidewalk replacement begin soon, but says the village is now at the mercy of the weather.
