Volleyballers off to a good start

It’s a new year, a new coach and a new team for the lady dragon spikers, but the quality hasn’t changed at all.
The Girls Varsity Volleyball team won their tournament of the year on Aug. 25 at Dakota High School. The win brings their total record to 15-4, with loses attributed to rivals Marion and Dakota.
‘Beating Dakota at their tournament in the final game was a great win for Lake Orion,? said Varsity Volleyball Statistic Recorder Cindy Livingway.
Top players for the game were Tess Marshall and Hannah Murdock for kills, Sophie Murdock and Melanie Heath for hitting percentage, Sophie and Heath again for blocks, Gabby Kalugar and Sabrina Cottrell for digs and Cottrell and Rachel Giwa for assists.
The team only lost one game during the tournament to Dakota, beating Romeo, Seaholm, Novi, Divine Child and, later, Dakota in the final.
The girls will play again on Sept. 8 at home in a tournament against Marion, Mercy, Oxford, Adams, Midland, Seaholm, Stoney Creek, Eisenhower, Dakota, Lutheran North and Armada.
