What a gas

Brandon Twp.-Chemistry question: what do you get mixing one-part potassium chlorate and one gummy-bear?
Answer: Gummy gas.
Well, sort of says Jaime Martin, a Brandon High School chemistry instructor who uses a rather unique approach in a advance placement class.
‘This test demonstrates oxidation reduction similar to cutting an apple open watching it turn brown or rusting,? said Martin, in her sixth year of teaching at BHS. ‘While cutting an apple open and waiting for it to turn brown is not real exciting a small emission of a gas is a little more so’the students all learn in a different ways. Many of these students will go on to be engineers and medical professionals.?
About 17 BHS students are currently enrolled in the class good for college credit if they pass a test at the end of the year said Martin.
‘The students have a motto, ‘First we learn then we burn,?? laughed Martin. They are very dedicated students who work hard.?
