Eleven resumes from applicants interested in serving as Clarkston’s next police chief had arrived in the city mailbox as of Monday, and will be turned over to a committee appointed to begin the selection process.
Advertisements were placed with two sources, said City Manager Art Pappas, including the Michigan Municipal League. Resumes will be accepted until June 15.
The committee, which consists of city council members Kristy Ottman, Mike Gawronski, and Bill Rausch, will glean out top resumes and conduct an initial interview with top candidates.
Police Committee members Charles Inabnit and Steve Arkwright were also asked to sit on the committee.
‘I’d like to have the committee rank those top people,? said Councilman and Police Liaison Bill Rausch, adding that he would like the group to prepare for the process. ‘What I’d like you all to do is think about what questions you want to ask a potential chief.?
The police chief position is advertised with a salary range of $38,000-$42,000, with minimum healthcare benefits available.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office agreed to provide a background check for potential chief candidates.
Undersheriff Mike McCabe said the OCSO provided the service when the City of Lake Angeles hired a police chief a few years back, and would do the same for Clarkston’no charge.
‘We’ll assign a seasoned investigator who does a complete background on the person,? said McCabe, noting the service would include interviews as well as employment, credit and neighborhood checks. ‘We verify everything they put in their application. It’s an extensive process.?
It will be the first time the city has completed extensive background checks on police personnel.
