Wiederman wins school board seat, renewal passes

About 13 percent of district voters turned out to elect Niki Wiederman to the Goodrich School Board of Trustees.
Wiederman, a former high school biology teacher and current guidance counselor in the Atherton School District high school, received 829 votes for one four-year term on the Goodrich Board of Trustees. Wiederman defeated college student Scott Statson, Jr., who earned 304 votes.
She will replace current School Board Trustee Lynne Morisette, who was appointed after Trustee Michael Thorp resigned on May 6, 2009, when he moved from the district.
Morisette announced Jan. 18 at the school board meeting that she would not be on the ballot.
Also on the ballot was a renewal of an 18-Mill Non-Homestead Tax. The issue passed, 561 yes to 329 no.
