Winds are whirling and Jottings is swirling

Not being a fan of the current, and hopefully temporary occupier of the White House, do not expect support of any of his programs in this space.
I do think it was nice of him, when he landed in Columbia for a meeting with Central American countries, to tell us he was there to check out vacation spots for his wife, Michelle.
It was only a day or two later when legal Central American prostitutes went to our federal officials there to demand payment for services rendered our secret service people.
What followed was silence from Obama about his praise for a Columbian vacation for Michelle.

? The amount of money Americans earned from January 1, 2012 to April 17, 2012 was enough to pay this year’s combined 29.2% federal, state and local taxes. It’s referred to as Tax Freedom Day. The money you earn for the rest of the year is yours.
? P. J. O’Rourke said: ‘If you think health is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it’s free.?
? I’m never going to buy anything from a company that advertises, ‘Price only good while supplies last.? Or, ‘Prices will never get this low again.?
? I wish I’d heard the source of the newscast that said dementia rates will triple by 2020. Wonder if it relates to Obama, Romney, Snyder, Bing, the media or will we have all reached our capacity?
? Back to Obama and Columbia for just a second (I promise), He said, ‘There will be a thorough and vigorous investigation? about our secret service people’s illicit actions there. What happened to our government’s usual inconclusive, superficial and cursory investigations reports?

I recently found a letter I wrote to our three kids from Turnberry, Scotland in 1986.
I wrote, ‘It’s easy to see how the Scottish got their reputation. Drinks are exactly one ounce. There are no wash cloths in our hotel, waitresses return unused knives, etc., to the drawers.
‘Hotels shut off hot water at night, teaspoons are half-size and all our golf at Canoustie and both St. Andrews courses were played in gale force winds.
‘The first golfers of the day are 2-somes to set the pace for the day. The countryside is postal card perfect.
‘I ordered the Scottish dinner, haggis, stomach of sheep. Looks like meatloaf, tastes like I think old baseball gloves would, landed in my stomach like an anvil. No wonder sheep give it up.?
We, the Jerry Olrich’s, Hazel and I, loved the whole couple weeks, but driving by their Scottish rules in their traffic caused me to change my shorts twice as often as my shirts.

Wasn’t that a great sight, our space shuttle being flown last week to the Smithsonian after its 27 flights? Our current leaders have apparently opted to let the Russians, etc. explore whatever is out there in space.
Is it a further symbol of America’s decline, a sign our country is changing directions and goals, a loss of imagination, a disruption to our thinking, or are the scientists off in their guesstimates on dementia rates having ended years earlier?
