Cagers faced off against Rochester Adams in the first round of districts on Monday night.
They took them out of the running for the district crown by beating them, 69-58.
Going into the game the boys were ready after they had just seen them less than two weeks ago.
And just like the previous match-up – Adams had a tough time guarding senior Matt Kamieniecki, as he scored 30 points in the game.
Tyler Scarlett aided with six points and led defense as the Highlanders did what the Wolves wanted them to do – end their season.
The boys prepared for districts last week with two OAA Red games to close the regular season.
They played Avondale on March 2 and won 41-29. Kamieniecki led the boys adding 20 points to the board and Scarlett had 11.
‘It was a tough game,? said Wolves Head Coach Dan Fife.
They followed it with another win – this time over Southfield-Lathrup, who they had lost to earlier in the season in overtime.
‘It was our floor, but we played better,? said Fife about the difference in the boys from the previous match-up.
Jordan Clark got the ball rolling putting the boys on the board with two points. After the boys regained control of the ball he put in another basket but this time from past the three point line.
‘Kami and Clark were good early in the game,? said Fife. ‘They set the tempo.?
The Wolves went on a 16-point run leading into the second quarter before Southfield-Lathrup put two points onto their score.
The boys kept adding points to the board and regaining possession of the ball.
Kamieniecki grabbed the ball from Southfield-Lathrup and as the ball was heading out of bounds he outstretched his long arm passing it towards Nick Tatu.
Tatu ran down the court and found himself blocked from making a shot. He bounced the ball down on the floor and towards Scarlett.
Scarlett lined it up and threw the ball. The ball hit the backboard before going through the rim.
Scarlett continued to have a good game as he ran circles around his opponents, and ended the game with 19 points, and was 9-for-9 on free throws.
‘Scarlett was good with the ball tonight,? said Fife. ‘It was a good win for us.?
Kamieniecki scored13 points and Clark had ten.
The win put the boys at 10-4 in OAA Red – tying for first place with Southfield-Lathrup and Southfield.
‘It was better to tie than to get second place,? admitted Fife.
Clarkston takes on Romeo on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Lake Orion and Rochester compete at 5:30 p.m.The winners move on to Friday night at 7 p.m. at Clarkston.
