Orion Oaks Elementary School presented its annual Upper El. Auto Show on April 29, as part of a social studies unit titled Michigan in the National and Global Economy.
The project gets students thinking about the auto industry, and gives them the chance to design, manufacture and market their own cars. The project began with Automotive Career Day, with parents and community members sharing information with the students about their jobs in the auto industry.
Teams of students were then created, with each team having at least one representative from each neighborhood in the school. Students designed their autos and worked on brochures to market their vehicles.
They also built the cars and gave them some working parts, as well as designing a display board.
