CAYA is currently seeking volunteers for various positions ? from public relations, to committee work, to office work.
The following list details on each volunteer position available:
Board of Directors: The Board of Directors meets the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. The meeting lasts approximately one hour. At this meeting, subcommittee members and liaisons from other community groups, schools and governmental units report on their activities. This committee has voting power and needs additional community input.
Membership Chairperson: The membership chairperson keeps track of members and prepares the lists for approval by sponsors. Much of this work can be done at home with occasional follow-up phone calls and a once per year list to prepare and mail out.
Family Education Committee: This committee meets during the day approximately six times per year. Members brainstorm new programs to put on for parents.
Annual Golf Fund-Raiser: Members of this committee are needed to obtain hole sponsors and gifts for the golfers. The committee has approximately three evening meetings in the spring. Golfers are also needed to participate.
After-School Tutoring Program: The program runs from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Bridgewater Apartment Complex. Tutors are still needed for elementary students for approximately 45 minutes per day, starting at 4:15 p.m.
Camp Committee: This committee meets once or twice per year in the spring. One of the meetings is for the sign-up for the campers.
Youth Recognition Committee: This committee has approximately four meetings per year in the early spring and attendance at the function, usually held in April.
Mentors Plus Committee: Regular mentors make a weekly commitment for a visit with a child. The committee puts on a monthly event for the children. Monthly mentors are also needed. These mentors accompany a child from the waiting list to the regular monthly program event. There are currently children on the waiting list for a mentor.
Public Relations: Able to attend the monthly Board of Directors meetings to track what is happening with the organization and get the necessary information to the chairperson who works with the local media.
Grant Writing Committee: This is a newly formed committee for the sole purpose of finding and applying for grants. Meetings are called as needed. Need grant writing experience and/or grant research experience.
In addition to the above positions, CAYA also needs help with fund-raising activities, writing and/or journalism skills, office work and computer skills.
Clarkston Area Youth Assistance (CAYA) in Oakland County is a non-profit volunteer organization, established in 1961, for the purpose of preventing juvenile delinquency and neglect in the community. CAYA offers family education programs, school presentations, a mentoring program, a youth recognition event, summer camps and skill building experiences for the youth in the community.
