Atlas Twp.-Firefighters responded to a house fire on the shores of Lake Shinanguag late Monday night.
About 10:30 p.m., June 12, fire departments from Atlas, Brandon, Davison, Grand Blanc and Groveland townships battled a blaze in the 10000 block of Dar Lane near M-15 on the northeast shore of the lake.
“When we arrived on the scene fire was already through the roof of the home,” said Fred Forys, township fire chief.

“Heat was significant for our firefighters; however, they all did an outstanding job.In addition, the mutual aid from our neighboring fire departments was excellent.”
“The family was home at the time of the blaze and exited the home,” he continued. “The homes to the north and south of the structure were also threatened by the fire. Those homes were evacuated and were extensively damaged due to the heat.”
The township fire department was on the scene until 5:30 a.m.Tuesday. The blaze rekindled several hours later and firefighters returned to the structure.
“The fire started for a second time in the basement,” he said. “There’s a lot of debris that’s difficult to get water on after a massive fire.”
Water to battle the blaze was trucked in from the fire station in Goodrich.
Cause of the fire remains under investigation as of press time.
