A Lake Orion family lost their four-year-old son after the boy drowned in a swimming pool in Sterling Heights on Sunday, June 14, police reported.
The identity of the child and family is being withheld, Lieutenant Dave Smith, of the Sterling Heights Police Department, said.
‘It’s not appropriate. I don’t believe we will be releasing their identification without some requirement by law to do so,? he said.
The Lake Orion family was visiting friends on Winterfield Street near 19 Mile and Ryan roads, when a call was put in to the Sterling Heights police around 3:45 p.m.
According to reports, the four-year-old wandered away from the family for about five to ten minutes. His father and father’s friend located him face down in the pool and pulled him out, Smith said.
The Sterling Heights Fire Department arrived to the scene first and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation before transporting him to William Beaumont Hospital in Troy, where he was pronounced deceased.
Although the incident is still under investigation, the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death as an accidental drowning.
