The changes to grades sixth through ninth’s athletic schedule proposed at the Nov. 29 school board meeting passed on Dec. 13.
The only changes to the plan since the last meeting were adjustments to the estimates of participants in some sports. The runners club for the sixth, seventh and eighth grades was initially expected to field 30 students now the estimate lies between 60-80. Also updated was information concerning the extra-curricular clubs. Specifically the plan cut out a full time salary for the International Caroling club as they do not meet all year.
Down the road, Deputy Superintendant Dave Reschke felt that the schools might have to add another girls sport to satisfy State Title IX requirements. Discussions have not been held as to what that new girls sports program would be.
The changes in grades 6-9 athletics will require approximately $71,255 out of the general fund and $4,500 additionally from the athletic fund.
Whether there will be a spike in transportation costs is not yet known.
