Van Kuren proud of GHS hockey team

Despite a loss in regional action March 4 against Brandon, Goodrich hockey coach Doug Van Kuren said the program has grown by ‘leaps and bounds? in the past year.
Van Kuren said the team has come a long way in restoring pride back to the program. He also said other teams? coaches, as well as game officials, complimented the Martians on how they have handled themselves on and off the ice.
‘We’ve done well in that respect,? Van Kuren said. ‘You can’t turn a program around without great kids and parents. They just needed some guidance.?
The Martians will be hit hard by graduation, losing nine players. However, Van Kuren said 22 students have signed up for spring hockey leagues, and combined with the returning sophomores and juniors, should provide the nucleus for a competitive 2004-05 team.
‘We’re going to be real young, but we have the potential to rebuild,? he said.
