To the editor:
Hats off to Robert DePalma and the Groveland Township Board for having the courage and wisdom to say no when the Brandon Township Library made ridiculous demands for a substantial increase in Groveland Township user fees.
Groveland Township did not have the right to vote on the library, but seems to have the right to pay for it. Shame on the Library Board of Trustees for convincing Brandon Township residents that the millage increase would be sufficient to run this library. How is it that the library board that authorized this oversized library didn’t know what it would cost to operate?
They expect Groveland Township to increase our share by nearly eight times what we were paying with no negotiating. I feel that Groveland Township would not have a problem paying our fair share, but what would have happened 3 years ago -before the library was built -if we were informed then that we would have to pay eight times as much?
Maybe an investigation should be conducted to see who didn’t research the cost of this facility properly and hold them responsible.
