Bomb threat evacuates tech center

Students were evacuated from the Oakland Technical Center-Northwest Campus in Springfield Township Friday, April 2 after a telephoned bomb threat.
No one was injured in the incident, and no bomb was found.
According to Oakland County Sheriff reports, a call came in to the staff lunchroom telephone at approximately 11:30 a.m. The person who answered the phone said a voice announced, ‘The building is going up at 1:30.?
Building occupants were evacuated to a nearby parking lot and the Springfield Township Fire Department was dispatched to stand by. A sheriff K-9 unit inspected the area, but the dog found nothing suspicious.
At about 12:30 p.m. buses were authorized to enter the Big Lake Road campus to pick up students, and staff was allowed to reenter the building at about 2 p.m. Afternoon classes were cancelled, however.
The caller was described as a male 30 to 40 years of age with a ‘deep tone? to his voice and ‘broken English.?
Sheriff Sgt. Frank Schipani, commander of the Springfield Township substation, said the investigation continues. He gave credit to school officials for executing their evacuation plan smoothly.
