Fisherman nets car in Tullamore Lake

Every fisherman has his tale of ‘the one that got away? or the old ‘I swear it was this big? story.
But not every fisherman can say their prize catch weighed a couple of tons and had four wheels.
Not every fisherman that is except for a 32-year-old Clarkston man who spotted a blue 1993 Pontiac Grand Am underwater while fishing Tullamore Lake in Oxford Township Monday, Sept. 13.
The vehicle was found upside down in 10 to 15 feet of water (with 20-foot visibility) about 25 feet from the shoreline along E. Drahner Road, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report.
Before Buckhorn Towing extracted the vehicle from the water, divers from the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department searched the car and surrounding area, but found nothing inside or around it.
The car’s door panels had been removed and placed in the trunk, while the vehicle’s radio, spare tire and battery were missing, the report stated.
The vehicle had no license plate and investigators were initially unable to find any Vehicle Identification Numbers on it, according to the sheriff’s report.
‘Some unknown subject(s) went to great extent trying to remove the VIN number from all locations on (the) vehicle,? the report stated.
Fortunately, the tow truck driver located the VIN number under the spare tire cover in the trunk.
Investigators determined the car is registered to a 23-year-old Pontiac woman.
Sgt. Kevin Banycky, of the sheriff’s Auto Theft Unit, said the car has not been reported as stolen and the matter is currently under investigation.
