Students at Stadium Drive Elementary School celebrated their annual Spirit Week on Sept. 27-Oct. 1.
The kids paired the idea of school spirit with the spirit of giving, bringing in canned goods for the Orion/Oxford FISH on Monday, bringing in box tops on Tuesday, soup labels on Wednesday, and a piece of junk mail to recycle on Thursday. On Friday, students brought in pop cans.
The kids also got to express themselves with ‘Crazy Mixed Up Day,? when students were encouraged to wear crazy outfits including backwards and inside out, mismatching clothing. A ‘team spirit? day, with the kids wearing clothes representing their favorite sports teams, and a school colors day were also part of the fun.
Students tested their own athletic abilities by participating in five outdoor events during their recess time: Sack race, softball throw, hockey shoot, beanbag toss and jump roping. Indoor events were held as well. The class with the ‘most spirit? at the end of the week won a pizza party.
A ‘king and queen? was also chosen for each event for grades 1-5.
Stadium has been holding spirit week for about eight years, but traditionally held it in May. It was moved up this year to help kick off the school year. About 70 parents volunteered to help throughout the week.
