The Oxford Cross Country Team is celebrating a milestone ? the team has remained undefeated for 45 consecutive dual-meets.
The runners maintained their eight winning seasons by defeating Brandon on Sept. 29. The top three runners were German Guerrero, taking first with 16:59; Adam Richmond with 17:07 and Kenny White with 17:17. Other runners for Oxford included Todd Davidson, Adam Heskitt, Brad Haney and Greg White.
‘There is a lot of pride in this program!? is exactly what Head Coach Ray Sutherland tells the runners before each race.
The next targets for the Wildcat runners are Lapeer East and Linden, both on Oct. 6.
Captains Kenny White and Adam Richmond concur with this reporter when they stated, ‘We don’t want to be the captains to lose the winning streak, so we are working extremely hard.?
The legacy of the Oxford Cross Country Team is built upon a lot of pride and the work of those in the past. Even though this season the team has been struck by an unprecedented number of injuries, they are still pushing forward. The team depends upon the experience of Michigan Hall of Fame Coach Elmer Ball and Head Coach Sutherland.
The Oxford team is composed of both experienced and inexperienced runners. However, every runner makes a difference – the workout the boys do makes every runner push each other so there is a chain reaction to push the whole team.
The Wildcats next top competition will be the Fenton Tigers on Oct. 13.
‘I want to beat Fenton the most!? declared Coach Ball.
Last year Fenton tied with Oxford to share the FML championship. This year, the runners are looking to be the champs again, but not share the honor with any other team.
Come out and support the Wildcats on Oct. 13 in Scripter Park on Glaspie St. The race starts off at 4 p.m. from the water tower.
