Bald Mountain photo contest offers $1,000 in cash prizes

Friends of Bald Mountain Recreation Area (FOBMRA) and Orion Art Center (OAC) jointly offer a community opportunity to honor a great natural resource, Bald Mountain Recreation Area State Park, a treasure in Oakland County.
Beginning this month, CAPTURING BALD MOUNTAIN BEAUTY, a four-season photography celebration of the state park located in Oakland, Orion and Addison Townships, will start in the beautiful season of autumn.
The photography contest and exhibit includes just two categories; first nature in the park and second, recreation in the state park with people enjoying activities in the park. There are two age groups — 11 and under and 12 to 99.
Photos entries must be 8 by 10 or larger, black and white or color, matted and suitable for hanging (framing is optional, but recommended).
Participants may enter up to three pieces. Entry fee is $25 for the public or $15 for OAC or ROBMRA.
The contest offers a best of show award, as well as first, second and third in the categories. Cash prizes total over $1,000.
The contest deadline is set to offer opportunity to photograph the state park in fall, winter, spring and summer. Thus, entries are due on July 22, 2005 by 4 p.m. to Orion Art Center.
‘This is a first time opportunity for the center to partner with another community organization to showcase the art of photography,? says Reggie Harrison, OAC Executive Director. ‘We are hoping many people will visit our local state park and bring their cameras.?
‘Bald Mountain Park has opportunities for exceptional sunrise and sunset photography as well as some high point scenic locations,? Bob Remer, MDRA Bald Mountain Recreation Area Park Manager and state park representative of the FOBMRA, says.
‘The wildlife and wild flowers, trees and plants in our important natural areas are exceptional subjects as well. We hope many park visitors will take advantage of this project and enjoy the park in all four seasons.?
