Clarkston girl excels at PP & K

Jackie Gipe of Clarkston took second place in the team championships of the Punt Pass and Kick competition on Dec. 5 at Ford Field during halftime of the Lions-Cardinals game.
This is the second year in a row Jackie has competed in the team championship round in front of 42,000 plus people.
‘It was cool going out there and throwing the ball and getting to see my face on the big screen.?
The competition, as the name suggests, consists of punting, kicking from a tee and passing the ball for distance and accuracy.
The bulk of the contest took place prior to the game. Going into her final throw, which was taken at halftime, Jackie felt added pressure because she knew she was in second place.
‘I was a little nervous because I knew I had to do better than the girl ahead of me,? said Gipe. ‘I knew what to expect because it was my second time.?
Jackie fell a little short and ended up staying in second, but has no regrets about her day at Ford Field.
‘All of it was really fun and I like that the Lions won too,? said Gipe. ‘I’m going to try to (qualify) next year too.?
