Like a snowball going downhill

Clarkston skiing inched closer to cementing their status as a dynasty as both the boys and girls teams won the South Eastern Michigan Ski League divisionals on Feb. 9 and 10.
The boys are defending the SEMSl title for the fourth year in a row. The girls have triumphed in the finals three years running.
‘We are trying to do our best Lance Armstrong impression,? said Clarkston Coach Bruce Rosengren.
On the boys side, Clarkston tallied 41 points. Rochester Adams finished second with 72, followed by Lake Orion with 136.
Clarkston’s Alex Rosengren won both the slalom and giant slalom events. Eric Weiland and Kevin Vahlbusch finished fourth and fifth respectively in the slalom. Vahlbusch also nabbed third in the giant slalom.
‘Alex seems to be peeking at the right time. (Everyone) skied real well and very strong. We have gelled as a team,? said Rosengren
The girls put up 52 points as a team, 35 ahead of second place finisher Cranbrook (87). Lake Orion came in third with 98 points.
Mo Weiland was the top skier for the Wolves in both events, finishing third in the slalom and giant slalom. Trisha Peters also helped with her fourth place finish in the slalom.
‘Peters has really stepped it up for us, she is one of the biggest surprises for us this year,? said Rosengren.
The top three teams at SEMSL’s divisionals advance to the finals on Feb. 22.
Clarkston was scheduled to compete in the OAA conference championship, but the meet has been rescheduled for Feb. 21 due to rain.
Before the Clarkston attends the OAA meet, they will compete in the Regionals on Feb. 17. All the ski team’s upcoming action will be at Pine Knob.
