Detectives were working with the Oakland County Prosecutor’s office late last week to file formal charges against twin brothers suspected of stealing construction materials in Independence Township and at least two other municipalities.
The 33-year-old Pontiac men were arrested on Feb. 17 for burglary, according to reports from the Independence Township substation of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.
One of the brothers, who drove during a chase involving Pontiac police, also faces potential charges of felonious assault with a motor vehicle, reports said.
Because of the President’s Day holiday on Monday, details concerning the suspects? pending arraignment were not available.
An undercover Pontiac police detail followed the suspects to the Clintonville Pines Condominiums in Independence Township. There, officers witnessed the suspects enter one of the units under construction and remove several items.
After notifying the sheriff’s department, the Pontiac police unit followed the suspects, reports said. The chase ended in Auburn Hills, where the suspects were apprehended despite attempts to use their vehicle to run down officers.

Recovered from the suspects? vehicle were two pairs of boots and multiple boxes of wood flooring.
In addition to unspecified charges to be filed by Pontiac police, one of the suspects later confessed to the Independence burglary and an additional break-in in Orion Township, reports said. Apparently, the duo had been working for two to three months in partnership with another party who purchased the building materials for resale.
Sheriff Detective Jerry DeRosia said last week that each charge will likely be prosecuted in their respective jurisdictions.
