Clarkston volleyball was more Corvette than Yugo this weekend, going undefeated in pool play at the Andover tournament on Feb. 19.
But, as any Michigan driver knows, late February is fraught with potholes, and the Wolves hit one in their semifinal match up with Royal Oak Dondero.
‘We should have went farther at Andover,? said Clarkston Coach Kelly Avenall. ‘If we play Dondero five times, we’ll beat them four out of five. It was just one of those games.?
Clarkston triumphed over Lake Orion, Port Huron and Madison in pool play before losing to Dondero.
Stephanie Parkin, who this week verbally committed to Oakland University, had a spectacular tournament for the Wolves registering 53 kills on the day.
Also standing out was Laura Kupe with 49 digs, Kate Thomas with 91 assists and Kim Vincent who went 29 for 30 on serve reception.
‘We’re playing better as a team, we struggled earlier in the year to get the ball to the setter,? said Avenall.
Next up for Clarkston is a districts matchup with Waterford Kettering at Holly on Feb. 26. Should the Wolves win their first round game, they will play Holly in the district semifinals.
