The Lake Orion varsity baseball team will try to extend their post-season even further this year, after losing to Troy 5-4 in the regional semifinal game last season.
The Dragons return everyone from that team except for Nate Recknagel, an All State player, and Mike Ripari.
The team will find leadership on the field this season from senior catcher Neil Medchill, senior Bobby Clouse and senior pitcher Josh Hughes, who won 10 games last year.
Sophomore Joe Barnes will also help out the Dragons.
On April 4, Lake Orion opened their season with a decisive victory over Birmingham Groves, winning 16-3 in six innings.
Medchill was hitless with three walks for the team, after hitting .371 last year. Hughes was 3-for-3 and had three RBI for the team.
Hughes pitched four innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.
Lake Orion senior Ben Wright had a two-run double in the fourth inning, as the Dragons scored six runs.
Junior Eric Plounde had a two-run homer in the sixth inning for the team, as Orion went ahead, 15-3.
Clouse had two hits, including two RBI, for the team.
The Dragons played a doubleheader against Detroit Catholic Central on April 9, and traveled to Rochester on April 11.
The team will host West Bloomfield on April 13, and travel to Royal Oak Kimball on Friday.
