The Clarkston Area Optimist Club held their annual club oratorical contest at Clarkston High School on April 7.
Judge Kelley Kostin, chairperson of the local contest, presented the following awards:
? First place gold medals to Forrest Brazeal and Meghna Dhir.
? Second place silver medals to Joshua Kearney and Taylor Weiss.
? Third place bronze medals to Michael Schreiber and Ellyn Gray.
A total of 38 students participated. Brazeal and Dhir will now advance to the zone level contest, which will be held at Oakland Schools on April 23.
The first place zone contest winners will compete at the state level on May 14 at the Livonia Holiday Inn during the Michigan Optimist District regional meeting. The final winners will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
The Optimist International Oratorical Contest is held throughout the United States. The theme for this year’s contest is ‘My Hero is??
