Golfers take 3rd in FML meet

Last week was a very demanding week for the Ladycat golfers. On Monday, the golfers competed in the first of the two Flint Metro League meets this season at the Flint Elk’s golf course. Oxford took third in the outing with a low score of 426.
Senior Beth Hubbard was Oxford’s low scorer, finishing with a 92 and tying for 3rd place individually. Karen Offer (103), Christi Schiffman (112), and Stephanie Hiltunen (119) rounded out Oxford’s scoring for the day.
The next day, Oxford traveled to Pontiac Country Club for the Oakland County Division I outing.
The golfers couldn’t have asked for a better day weather-wise. With the temperature topping 80 degrees, the Ladycats ended with 437 strokes and finished the day placed 16th out of 18 teams. It was captain Beth Hubbard leading the pack again and finishing with 93 strokes and earning her a top 15 rank among the county’s division I golfers. Karen Offer finished with 108 strokes, Christi Schiffman a 114, and Samara Carroll with a score of 122. Head Coach Terry Kelley would like to see fewer strokes between his top four scorers in any given outing. He is looking to the middle of his line-up for a bit of improvement in the coming weeks.
On Friday, Oxford sent four golfers to compete in Lutheran North’s Mustang Invitational at Cracklewood golf course. The playing format was a golf scramble- a style of play where each of the four golfers hit the ball, but only the best ball hit will be used in counting the strokes.
The Ladycat foursome of Beth Hubbard, Samara Carroll, Kelsy King, and Claire Hubbard earned 5th place out of 16 teams.
