Churches cooperate for prayer day event

The National Day of Prayer, will be launched in Clarkston with a 7:30 a.m. breakfast at St. Daniel Catholic Church on Thursday, May 5, followed by two additional opportunities for Christians to offer public prayer for the nation.
Doors will open at 7 a.m., with a flag salute at 7:25 a.m. and breakfast at 7:30 a.m. The morning event is scheduled to conclude by 9 a.m.
Featured speaker at the breakfast will be Sharon Hoover, who has conducted area Bible study programs. Representatives of community organizations scheduled to appear include Mike Blicher, chaplain of the Clarkston Area Optimist Club; Pastor Rich Dake, Clarkston United Methodist Church; Randy Goldsworthy, Clarkston Middle School teacher; Kendra Lanpheir and Megan Hahe, representing youth and families; Patty Heber, Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital; and Glen Farall, appearing on behalf of the Free Methodist Church.
The program emcee will be Mark Gilman. Fr. Christopher Maus of St. Daniel Church, will say grace.

The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 6490 Clarkston Road, will open their doors from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. for prayer by anyone in the community.
From 6:30-9 p.m., Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church will host a live simulcast featuring Dr. Jerry Sitter, best-selling author of A Grace Disguised; Lee Strobel, host of PAX-TV’s ‘Faith Under Fire? and best-selling author of The Case for Christ and The Case for a Creator; and Mark Mittelburg, executive director for evangelism for the Willow Creek Association and co-author of Becoming a Contagious Christian.

The National Day of Prayer was established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1952 and signed into law by President Harry Truman.
