Softball shut out then snowed out

A 12-0 loss to Kettering on April 20 gave the Wolves softball team a lot to think about. Then the unexpected snow fall in the metro area gave them time to think as the Richmond Tournament on April 23 was cancelled.
‘We didn’t execute (against Kettering),? said Clarkston Coach Don Peters. ‘We have a lot of people out of position right now so it is not entirely the girls fault though.?
Peters did feel that Katy Kleinedler did an excellent job at the plate and behind it, as she filled in at catcher with the Wolves missing their starter and backup backstops.
The snow left over from the weekend forced the Wolves inside for practice on April 25. Peters feels the time spent in the gym will be good for the team as they were able to work on fundamentals.
‘Our philosophy is to take one step at a time,? said Peters.
The next step for Clarkston will come on April 27 at home against Lake Orion ? that is if the playing fields have recovered from the wintry mix that coated them over the weekend. Peters was not optimistic that the game would be played.
Everyone involved with the softball team at Clarkston and many from around the state are hoping that the recent bad run of weather is over before the weekend of April 30-May 1 as the Michigan Stars Tournament is scheduled to be played then at Bicentennial park in Grand Blanc. Peters has helped organized the tournament for the past 13 years, which raises money for softball and to help fight breast cancer. There is expected to be 48 teams competing over the weekend.
Clarkston won the tournament two years ago, but Peters would just like to see some strong competition out of his young and inexperience Wolves this year.
