The Blackhawks distinguished themselves at the Saginaw Valley State University meet April 22, finishing second in Division 2 with 78 points. Mt. Pleasant won the Division 2 bracket with 147 points.
Brandon competitors took first place in two different events, as Savannah Stedman won the high jump with a jump of 5?, and Sarah Bond won the shot put with a throw of 35?2-1/4?. Teammate Melissa McCarty finished second in the shot put at 33?10?.
Bond also finished third in the discus with a throw of 98?4-1/2?.
Kayla Doan notched Brandon’s other second place finish, this one in the 3200 meter run (12:01.07). Teammate Kelsey Carmean finished fifth in the 3200 meter run (12:23).
Other Brandon individual placers were Ali Sowa in the long jump (seventh, 13?5-1/2?); Danie Ashford in the 1600 meter run (third, 5:34.5); Kelly Wilson in the 1600 meter run (fourth, 5:38.6); and Jamie Hendershott in the 800 meter dash (third, 2:37.5).
The Blackhawks also finished third in the 3200 relay (10:12.30); seventh in the 1600 relay (4:39.18); and eighth in the 800 relay (2:01.24).
