It was a tough week for the varsity kickers, losing league games to Fenton and Lapeer East.
The Ladycats hosted the Fenton Tigers last Monday and were defeated 3-1.
Oxford played very well in the first half of play and sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Henry had numerous saves before allowing a Tiger goal.
Oxford bit right back on a great goal from senior Kehly Hicks.
At the start of the second, both teams were tied at 1-1 until Fenton scored the go ahead goal.
The Ladycats stepped up their game and continued their fight to win with a few shots on goal, but couldn’t convert. Fenton scored again at the end of the half to win the match 1-3.
Coach John Thaler accredited the aggressive play of his captains, junior Gena Nelson and senior Christine Fortier, with the help of midfielders junior Lisa Reile and Kehly Hicks.
Oxford couldn’t catch a break on Thursday against East.
The Eagles scored in the first half going up 0-1, but with senior Jolene Patterson leading the defensive effort, it was the East’s only score of the night.
With the defense and keeper Henry holding the Eagle’s offense at bay, it was the Ladycat’s that struggled to score on the night.
The frustrated Oxford squad had scoring opportunities created by midfielder’s Lisa Reile and Gena Nelson, but the Ladycats couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net dropping their second straight match.
‘The ball just wasn’t bouncing our way tonight,? Thaler said.
With three games left in the league, Thaler is optimistic his squad will get back on track.
‘The girls just need to stay focused and determined to do well,? he stated.
Oxford is currently .500 in the league at 4-4-1, and 6-5-2 overall.
