Ortonville-From 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., June 11 the Ortonville Downtown Development Authority is sponsoring Creekfest 2005.
The festivities kick off at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the Ortonville United Methodist Church, 173 Church Street, Ortonville.
Afterwards, there are several activities taking place between 9-11:30 a.m. They include: native plant identification walks, a creek wade and scavenger hunt. In addition, Jonathan Schechter will present ‘Creekside Creatures,? and kids of all ages will enjoy making ‘Creek Creations? crafts.
The Brandon Township Fire Department will present a fire safety demonstration, and Brandon Township Library’s Bookzilla will also make an appearance.
Weather permitting, patrons will have a chance to go on a tethered hot air balloon ride, where they can get a hawk’s eye view of Kearsley Creek in the RE/MAX balloon.
The afternoon will feature such staples as the minnow race, big fish contest, and yacht race. The latter event is for children ages 12 and under, who will make their yachts at the Fire Department in the morning, and race it on Kearsley Creek in the afternoon.
Creekfest will also feature performances by ‘Michigan’s Troubador,? Neil Woodward, The Paint Creek Boys, and the GOB Riverdancers, who will perform Celtic dances.
