Senior Profiles by Position

Midfielders run the entire field and play both offense and defense:
Dan Walsh was the team’s face-off specialist, gaining possession of the ball nearly two-thirds of the time for Clarkston. Dan was the assist leader on the team setting up 11 goals and scoring 14. Dan is heading to University of Michigan ? School of Engineering and will try for the Michigan lacrosse club team.
Brad Welbourn is an accomplished soccer player who used his superb conditioning to play the demanding midfielder position. Brad led the team with 56 ground balls (gaining possession of the ball by picking up a loose ball or intercepting an opponent’s pass). Brad scored 10 goals and had five assists. He will attend Central Michigan in the fall.
John Williams was part of the senior midfield 3-W’s,(Walsh, Welbourn, Williams) who played extensive minutes together. John is a player who hustles on every play, provides excellent defense, and looks to set up his teammates. He recorded 10 assists and five goals. John plans on attending MSU.
Justin Tanner played one year for Clarkston as a midfielder. He was a great team player who was up for every game. He will attend Oakland Community College next year.

Defense – In Lacrosse, like many sports, the glory goes to the offensive players. Defender’s efforts in lacrosse don’t show up in individual statistics, but the senior group of strong defensive players certainly can be credited with keeping the team’s goals against average to less than seven. Next year’s team will have a big gap to fill on defense since five senior defenders are graduating this year.
Alex Handley used his superior stick-handling skills to grab loose balls after face offs as the ‘long-stick middie? and in the defensive half of the field. He played lacrosse for three years at Clarkston. Alex will be playing junior hockey for the Alpena Ice Diggers next year.
Justin Anderson played three years for Clarkston and was a team leader. He played both defense and midfielder. He will be attending Western Michigan to study business.
Chad Gilbert played defense for two years. Chad will be working full time with his Dad this summer and attend Central Michigan in the fall.
Michael Cumper played defense and long pole middle for three years. Mike will join several teammates at Oakland University next year.
Andrew Spencer played for four years at Clarkston as a midfielder and chipped in with one goal and three assists. He will attend Oakland University.
Thomas Garavaglia was the heart of the defense and took personally if anyone was near the goal. His forcefulness led to a team high 10 penalties this season (in 13 games). Tom will be attending the UM Flint studying business and communication.
Anthony Calaman played the ‘wall? in front of the goalie with his six foot, four inch, 270-pound size. Smaller players frequently bounce off him when trying to check him. Anthony will attend Oakland University to study Engineering.
Attackman stay in the offensive end of the field and are specialists in dodging, shooting and passing.
Aaron Ehrmann is the only senior attackman. In playing only part of the season, he scored seven goals with two assists. His season highlight was four goals against Grand Blanc.
