Dura, Foyt headline Brandon All-State selections

Brandon seniors Meridith Dura and Derek Foyt closed out their Blackhawk careers in top fashion
Dura, an outfielder, was named to the Division 2 All-State softball first team, while Foyt, an infielder, made the Division 2 All-State baseball first team. The All-State teams are selected by the state’s coaches.
Foyt was scheduled to play in the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game June 23 at Comerica Park in Detroit. He was slated as the starting center fielder for the East team, according to Brandon varsity baseball coach Ron Wagner.
He also was named first team All-District and All-League, made the District All-Academic team, and received Brandon’s Blackhawk award.
In addition to Dura, two other Brandon varsity softball players, junior pitcher Jill Perry and sophomore infielder Chelsea Wengren, made the all-state honorable mention squad.
This is the second straight year Perry has earned All-State honors. Last season, she made first team All-State. She was also voted as the team’s Most Valuable Player.
Dura, Wengren, Perry and sophomore Lauren Ross made both the All-District and All-Region teams. The Blackhawks advanced to the Division 2 regional finals before losing 1-0 to Livonia Ladywood in an eight-inning contest June 13.
In addition, Wengren was named first team All-League, while Dura, Perry and junior Jessica Liebner were voted second-team All-League. Dura also received the Blackhawk and Scholar Athlete awards and the softball program’s Most Team Spirited award.
