The 13U Lake Orion Dragons travel baseball team finished in fifth place (with a 3-1 record) out of 20 teams at the U.S.S.S.A. Firecracker Tournament, held in Sterling Heights July 1-4.
The Dragons had the highest runs per game average in the tournament and outscored their opponents in their three victories, 44-2.
The Dragons first win was an 18-1 victory over the Grosse Pointe Avengers. Ryan Pitt and JD Horecki both pitched two innings, with Pitt earning the win and Horecki earning the save.
The Dragons lost their second game of the tournament to the DuPage Cobras from Illinois, preventing Lake Orion from earning a trip to the finals.
The Dragons bounced back in their third game, beating the Eastside Warriors, 15-0. Devon Wiegers pitched all three innings for the shutout victory.
In their last game of the tournament, the Dragons defeated the Plymouth Canton Prospects, 11-1.
Josh Stocchi pitched the first three innings, earning the win, and Horecki pitched the last inning to earn the save.
Wiegers had a team-high seven hits and seven runs scored.
Matt Musary had six hits and six runs scored, and a team-high three walks.
Alex Seinar had five hits, six runs scored, and a team-high six RBIs.
Aidan Murdock had four hits and six runs scored, and five RBIs.
Alex Yee and Robert Gillham both had four hits and three runs scored. Stocchi had four hits and four RBIs.
Casey Burke had two hits, a team-high three walks, five runs scored, and five RBIs.
Chris DeLuca had two hits and five RBIs. Pitt went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Horecki had a hit and two RBIs.
The Dragons have played well all year and have completed their N.O.B.F. season, finishing in first place in their 13U division.
The team finished with a 17-4 record.
The team has 29 wins overall and will be participating in additional tournaments, including the 13U U.S.S.S.A World Series.
