The Clarkston Area Optimist Club joined the ‘Pitch In for Kids!? backpack collection and assembly campaign kick-off last weekend with a $300 check, presented to backpack project chairman Kelly Hyer.
Clarkston Optimist Club members ‘pitched in? with school supply items for the last four weeks. The Jr. Optimists will match the adult club donation with another check for $300.
The combined $600 contribution will provide and fill approximately 10 back packs for needy Clarkston students.
Containers for cash donations are available at many business locations in Clarkston. Boxes for the contributions of school supplies are located at Clarkston State Banks, National City Bank, Bank One, Best Bank, Clarkston/Brandon Credit Union, Clarkston Chamber of Commerce, Clarkston Community Schools Board Office, Independence Twp. Parks & Rec, and the Senior Center located in Clintonwood Park.
Canisters for cash donations can be found at the banks listed as well as local businesses such as the Clarkston Big Boy and Brose Electric. There will be volunteers at the Kmart store on Dixie Hwy. to accept donations of school supplies the weekend of August 12 and 13.
