The annual Tons of Trucks event at Clintonwood Park had tons of visitors this year.
According to a head count by the staff of Independence Township Parks and Recreation, 826 people flocked to Clintonwood park on Aug. 13 to marvel at 32 trucks of various shapes and sizes.
‘It’s a simple concept, but kids and adults never get a chance to go up close to these trucks. They are just fascinating,? said Kelly Hyer, recreation programmer for Independence Township Parks and Recreation.
Last year Tons of Trucks hauled in 501 gawkers.
New to the array of trucks this year was a massive RV home, a race car provided by local driver Morgan Keil, the Oakland County Sheriff Marine Division’s boat towing vehicle and one of Clarkston school’s new buses.
As always, the fire truck enthralled children and parents alike.
‘Nowadays the fire trucks are so intricate,? said Hyer. ‘The fire truck is the first thing the kids recognize and go to.?
With the increased traffic surrounding the trucks this year, Hyer said the Independence Township Parks and Recreation staff is already thinking of ways to expand next year’s event.
