A representative from the Social Security Administration is coming to the Independence Township Senior Center on Sept. 15 to help low income seniors who received their forms fill out the applications to receive extra help paying for their Medicare Part D Prescription Coverage.
The event begins at 10 a.m. The presenter will explain the forms and coverage and answer any questions.
Beginning January 2006, voluntary drug coverage will be provided through private insurance companies. Enrollment in a Medicare drug plan is voluntary; however, in order to avoid a future premium penalty, most eligible beneficiaries will need to be enrolled in a credible prescription drug plan between Nov. 15, 2005 and May 15, 2006. Medicare’s Web site will include information on the plans? costs and the drugs they carry starting on Oct. 15.
The Independence Township Senior Center is looking for volunteers to assist seniors to find the right prescription company for their needs on the Web site. The volunteers needs to be computer-literate, patient and willing to fill out forms.
For more information or to volunteer, please call the center at 248-625-8231.
