Benefit concert for hurricane relief

Goodrich- The hurricane relief beat goes on.
Alex Gamble, 15, has combined her love of music and desire to help victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita by organizing a Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert.
Shortly after Hurricane Katrina struck Louisiana and Mississippi, Gamble began talking with a friend about benefit concerts celebrities were having.
‘We thought it would be pretty sweet if we did that for the Hurricane Katrina situation,? the Goodrich High School junior said.
She went online, sent messages to 50 bands and half of them replied. She wasn’t able to fit them all into one concert, but she selected a mix of 11 experimental, rock, hard core and heavy metal bands to play at a concert scheduled for 4:30- 10 p.m., Nov. 5 at the Goodrich High School cafeteria, 8029 S. Gale Road. Tickets are $7 at the door and all proceeds go to the American Red Cross.
‘I’ve never done anything remotely like this,? says Gamble, who is planning a second concert for the first Saturday in December to accommodate other bands. The Nov. 5 concert will be standing room only and Gamble expects 1500 people to see bands that include Girl Scout Hand Grenade, Burning Cities, Gauge, Nihilist, The Seventh Affair, Selfless, Via Cathrina, Ravenous, Kudara and Morgan. Refreshments will be available.
‘I’ve really enjoyed talking to everyone and organizing it,? she said. ‘It’s going to be a very good show, they have great stage presence and it’s for a good cause.?
Anyone not able to attend the concert can contribute by sending donations to Goodrich High School, 8029 S. Gale Road, Goodrich, Mich. 48438. Write ATTN: Benefit Concert on the envelope. For more information on the concert, call Alex Gamble at (810)577-5231.
