Stedman dominates in paint as Blackhawks defeat Lapeer West

Brandon junior Savannah Stedman proved to be too much to handle for Lapeer West Oct. 18.
Stedman had 26 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots as the Blackhawks defeated the host Panthers 45-37 in a Flint Metro League contest. Brandon improved to 9-4 on the season with the victory, while Lapeer West fell to 10-2.
The two teams battled nip-and-tuck for three quarters before the Blackhawks put the game away with a 14-7 run in the fourth quarter.
Brooke Schaefer added eight points in the win for Brandon, while Jennifer Adam scored 12 points in a losing effort for Lapeer West.
The Blackhawks dominated from the opening tip in a 54-35 victory against Oxford Oct. 13 at Brandon.
Brandon took command of the game by outscoring the Wildcats 17-5 in the first quarter, despite starting forward Jessica Liebner heading to the bench with two early fouls.
However, it was the Blackhawks who had more success getting to the free throw line, shooting 24-of-38 from the charity stripe (63.2 percent), compared to 9-of-20 for Oxford (45 percent).
Stedman led the Blackhawks with 13 points, while Meg Donnay added eight points and Liebner seven.
