Oxford lost a true servant of the public on Monday, November 28, 2005 when Robert W. Clack passed away. He was 83 years old.
Mr. Clack held the office of Oxford Township Supervisor from 1970 to 1980 ? the same position his father, Lee, held from 1953 to 1963.
‘It was a privilege and an honor to have worked with him,? said Clerk Clara Sanderson, who served with Mr. Clack on the township board from 1972 to 1980.
‘He was very dedicated to being supervisor of the township. His interest was solely in the township and the taxpayers.?
‘He was direct (with his opinions) and knew where he was coming from,? Sanderson said.
Sanderson recalled Mr. Clack was ‘instrumental? in securing the Oxford Veterans Memorial Civic Center as township property for community use, bringing sanitary sewers to the township and helping obtain federal funds which enabled the township to contract with the village for police protection.
It was under Mr. Clack’s leadership that the township purchased property which became Seymour Lake Park, a key site for many recreational facilities and activities.
‘I think he served the community well,? Sanderson said.
Mr. Clack was active in organizations which promoted and assisted township government.
He served on the Michigan Townships Association (MTA) state Board of Directors for six years and was a past president and honorary member of the Oakland County Chapter of the MTA.
Mr. Clack was a past presi dent (1979) and life member of the the Oakland County Association of Assessing Officers.
He served as Oxford’s assessor during much of his tenure as supervisor and later was the assessor for neighboring Brandon Township.
Outside of local government, Mr. Clack was a charter member of the Advisory Board for POH Medical Center-Oxford and served 19 years in that capacity until his resignation in June 1999.
A proud life member of the Oxford Lodge #84 Free & Accepted Masons, Mr. Clack was a past master and served as the lodge secretary for 18 years. He also served as secretary of the Oxford Masonic Temple Association from 1973 to 2000.
A 1940 Oxford High School graduate, Clack earned his living in building construction, having his own company from 1948 to 1982.
Mr. Clack is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Virginia (Junie) and two sons, Dale (Theresa), of Denver, Colorado, and Frederick, of Lake Orion. He’s also survived by grandchildren Cristin, Scott, Kellie and Stuart; brother Bryce (Waneeta) Clack, of East Lansing; sister-in-laws Margaret Tuttle, of Findlay, Ohio, and Noreen Liddy, of Southfield; several nieces and nephews; and cousins Irva Ousnamer and family, Paula Morneau and family, and Lee (Helen) Hendryx.
A funeral for Mr. Clack will be held at Bossardet Chapel Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors (39 W. Burdick St.) at 11 a.m. Friday, December 2.
Friends may visit Thursday, December 1 from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. with a Masonic Memorial Service to be held at 7 p.m.
Interment at the Kingsbury Cemetery in Addison Township.
