Minor loses four fingers at work

The state of Michigan is seeking legal action against a Clarkston employer for violating the state’s youth labor laws after a minor’s four fingers were accidently amputated while working there.
Century Tool & Die, Inc, had employed the 17-year-old minor, who lost his fingers while operating a mechanical power press in April.
‘Due to the severity of the accident, we have referred the case to the state’s Attorney General’s office for prosecution,? said David Plawecki, a deputy director with the Department of Labor & Economic Growth in a press release.
‘We are seeking charges against Century Tool & Die for violating the state’s Youth Employment Standards Act by employing a minor without a work permit and employing him in a hazardous occupation.?
The case was initially investigated by the Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration, which notified the state’s Wage and Hour Division when it learned the worker was a minor.
