The Clarkston Select Soccer Club (CSSC) U9 Boys Impact soccer team, completed its 2005 indoor youth soccer season with an exciting overtime playoff championship victory, decided by penalty kicks, over the U9 Bloomfield Force team on Friday, December 16th at the Oakland Yard indoor facility in Waterford.
The U9 Clarkston Impact boys soccer team was formed in June of 2005 and is comprised primarily of eight-year-olds, with all 10 of the boys attending Clarkston schools. Throughout the past four months, they have put together a record of 10-2 outdoors and 8-1 indoors while out scoring their opponents by over 60 goals in 21 games (18 wins and 3 losses). The highlight this year for the boys was their stunning indoor playoff run which included come from behind victories in both the semifinals and the finals against the Birmingham Blazers and Bloomfield Force U9 teams respectively.
In the finals, with the Impact down, 2-1 and the clock ticking down, the boys from Clarkston generated the equalizer with less than two minutes left in the match, sending the game into overtime.
Impact goalkeeper, Grant Gotaas, turned back three consecutive Force shots with the crowd at Oakland Yard buzzing, while Joe DeFinis provided the offense to bring the indoor championship to Clarkston, capping off a great first year for this new team.
