Helmuth’s plunge nets $825

Maureen ‘Mo? Helmuth took a dip in the frigid waters at Belle Isle Saturday and raised $825 for Special Olympics.
Dressed as the Bride of Frankenstein, Helmuth, who works as utility clerk for the Village of Oxford, submerged herself in water a few degrees above freezing as part of the ‘Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge? in Detroit, a Super Bowl XL sanctioned event and fund-raiser for Special Olympics of Michigan.
‘Oh, it was cold,? said a drenched Helmuth as she dried off. ‘It was very cold. Took your breath away ? it was just gone. I came out of the water, I couldn’t even breathe.?
Helmuth’s Birde of Frankenstein outfit won 8th place in the costume contest, earning her a large jar of cookies shaped like different polar animals.
She took 7th place with the amount of pledge money she raised and won an overnight stay at the DoubleTree Metro Hotel in Romulus and entertainment book full of coupons.
