From the time owner John Foster first spray-painted the company name on a pickup truck 34 years ago, Allied Construction has grown to the point where it handles between 500-1,000 projects per year.
Today, Allied Construction is based in Clarkston, but also has another division in Livingston County, which opened 15 years ago. The company has 50 employees combined in the two locations.
They specialize in asphalt paving of parking lots, roads and driveways, according to Erik Swanson, Vice President of Operations for Allied Construction. He said Allied is ‘an old-school, old-line business? that takes pride in their commercial and residential work.
Allied has worked on thousands of commercial settings, including the demanding requirements of many municipal projects. In addition, they also work on residential projects and understand that paving your driveway reflects the value of your home and how you feel about it.
In placing asphalt, Allied uses only late model track road pavers with Sonic Feed Control Systems and extendible screeds. They are fully insured and bonded, and strive to give their customers everything in writing.
Allied Construction owns and operates more than $3 million worth of equipment. Their equipment improves the quality of their projects.
Allied is proud of the larger-scale projects they have worked on, such as the road to the Fermi 2 nuclear power station in Flat Rock, which was recently paved under the supervision under of the United States Department of Homeland Security. However, Foster said Allied also takes pride in their residential work.
‘We really enjoy doing driveways for homeowners, because they are pleased with the work we do,? he said. ‘Most people don’t realize we do more driveways in southeastern Michigan than any other contractor.
Swanson said Allied is also considering acquiring an asphalt plant in the future.
