Cat track stars heading to state meet

Even though Oxford finished fourth in the boys and third in the girls Flint Metro League track meet, there was no disputing who the top runner was.
Nick Collier claimed the unofficial title of fastest runner in the Flint Metro League by winning the 100 yard dash. Collier also garnered the most victories in the meet of any athlete by winning the 200 and anchoring the Wildcat’s victorious 400 and 800 relays.
Track Coach Andrew McDonald praised Collier’s showing.
‘He was the outstanding runner in the meet,? McDonald said.
Several Wildcats qualified for the state meet scheduled for this weekend. They are Collier in the 100 meters and Collier along with James Nelson, Andrew Klimbal and Mike May in the 800 relay.
For the girls, Hanna George qualified in the 400 and she also qualified with teammates Jacqui Sylva, Tiara Tatraczuk and Ashlee Eller in the 800 relay. The relay squad took top honors in the league meet and George won the 400.
The girls? third place overall finish was very good, McDonald said, considering they had lost in dual meets to two of the teams they beat in the league competition.
‘The girls really stepped up in the league meet and did a great job,? he said.
