Paint Creek Trail plans virtual bridge walk on Labor Day

The Paint Creek Trailways Commission is organizing a Virtual Bridge Walk on Sept. 4, at 9 a.m. at the Paint Creek Trail, Gallagher Road crossing.
The event is part of the new Active Michigan Summer initiative, organized by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports.
The program is designed to encourage Michigan residents to ‘get moving? by spending the summer training for the annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk, or a similar event in their area.
The walk will start at the Gallagher crossing (mile marker 34.9), and head south to bridge 34 (south of Silverbell), and return, for a total of 1.8 miles.
The Virtual Bridge Walk is the commission’s final event of the season. Free pedometers were handed out on National Trail Days (June 4), and participants were encouraged to walk 10,000 steps a day as part of a healthy regimen.
Participants were encouraged to keep track of their daily steps in preparation for the Labor Day walk.
Prizes will be given to one adult and one child who logged the most steps during the summer.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. on Sept. 4 at the Gallagher Road parking lot.
The first 50 people who register will receive a free Paint Creek T-shirt.
