Polasek scores three TDs as Blackhawks gain first win

Josh Polasek ran wild for Brandon’s varsity football team as they got into the win column for the first time this season.
The Blackhawks scored in each of the game’s four quarters as they earned a 28-10 win against the host Clio Mustangs in Flint Metro League action Friday, Sept. 8.
Polasek netted 142 yards on 17 carries and scored three touchdowns, while Andrew Hyde scored the Blackhawks? other touchdown and contributed 10 tackles on defense.
‘He ran awfully hard and the offensive line did an excellent job,? Brandon coach Ron Gill said of Polasek. ‘Something about Clio’s defensive alignment allowed us to run on them, and we took advantage of that.?
Hyde got the Blackhawks on the board first with a seven-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, although the Mustangs answered with a touchdown pass later in the quarter to tie the game at seven.
Polasek then scored on a 19-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to put Brandon back up 14-7, but the Mustangs would trim the Brandon lead to 14-10 before halftime on a field goal.
In the second half, though, the Blackhawks pulled away for the victory, as Polasek scored on two touchdown runs of 12 yards apiece, one each in the third and fourth quarters.
Gill said the Brandon defense did a good job in limiting the Mustangs to 10 points.
‘Our front five did an outstanding job,? he said. ‘We gave up a couple of pass plays which led to scores, which was disappointing, but overall, we did an excellent job of containing the line of scrimmage.?
The Blackhawks had a scheduled Sept. 15 home game against Corunna. Although they have not played the Cavaliers in Gill’s previous three years at Brandon, the coach said Corunna will provide a stern test for the Blackhawks.
‘They’re an excellent program and very talented,? he said. ‘They run a shotgun offense. We’re going to have to play our best game to beat them. This group plays like they practice. We’re going to have an excellent week of practice, and we’re looking forward to the game on Friday.?
Currently, the Cavaliers are 1-2 on the season, having defeated Perry 37-14 in their most recent game Sept. 8. Corunna went 5-4 last season.
After that game, the Blackhawks travel to Oxford Sept. 22 for a Flint Metro League matchup against the neighboring Wildcats. Oxford is currently 2-1 overall and 2-0 in Flint Metro League action
Oxford is 4-0 against Brandon since the Blackhawks joined the Flint Metro League in 2002-03, including a 30-20 win last season.
