OAC gives out awards for Portrait Show

The Orion Art Center is currently exhibiting the second annual Michigan Portrait Show, through Oct. 10.
The exhibit features artists from Battle Creek, Adrian, Berrien Springs and Flint, along with the talents of Oakland and Lapeer County artists. An opening reception was held Sept. 12, and $500 was awarded to six artists for their work.
OAC Director Reggie Harrison said the exhibit is a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in a commissioned portrait to come and see the many styles of the 36 artists who have entered.
Ten of the entries were self-portraits. Winning the Best of Show Award was Ken Taylor of Rochester Hills, and First Place went to Harry Ahn of Berrien Springs.
Second Place was awarded to Bill Williams of Battle Creek, and Third Place went to Mary Preczewski of Lake Orion, with Honorable Mentions going to Don Oakley of Oxford and Pam Diegel of Lake Orion.
The show was juried by Margot Van Horn, of Margot’s Gallery and Frame in Oxford. She sacrificed her juror honorarium to award Brandon Scott of Lake Orion a special ‘juror’s award.?
The OAC is located at 115 S. Anderson Street in downtown Lake Orion.
Hours are Tues.-Fri., 10 a.m.-5 p.m., or by appointment.
