Love was in the air on Sept. 16, as the North Oakland County affiliate of ‘Love In the Name of Christ? (or ‘Love INC? for short) held its first fund-raiser.
Dubbed ‘Sharing the Harvest,? approximately 180 people participated in a progressive dinner that began with appetizers at the Oxford Free Methodist Church, moved over to St. Joseph Catholic Church for dinner and ended with dessert at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church.
The dinner itself raised about $3,100 for the local Love INC affiliate, which was established in October 2005. A board of directors was installed in June.
A silent auction featuring 41 items raised nearly $3,600 more for the cause. From Red Wings tickets to water skiing lessons to a weekend retreat at a cottage in East Tawas, the auction featured many unique and hotly-contested items, all graciously donated.
Comprised of 12 denominational and non-denominational churches in the Oxford/Orion area, Love INC enables these religious institutions to pool their resources and services using a clearinghouse system so that no one in need is ever turned away.
Beyond meeting material needs and physical comforts, the group is devoted to changing people’s lives by giving them the tools and skills to improve themselves and make better choices in life. Being a Christian organization, the group believes in sharing, teaching and showing God’s love to all who need their help.
The board of directors for Love INC’s North Oakland affiliate meets at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of the month in the Georgetown Professional Building in Lake Orion.
